Bill Clinton in reinstating ban on assault weapons
Former President Bill Clinton implored lawmakers to take swift action on legislation banning so-called assault weapons in an op-ed published in Time on Thursday, writing that Americans "have talked, tweeted and delayed long enough." Clinton's appeal for gun control comes after mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, killed more than 30 people this past weekend, and as lawmakers argue over potential solutions to the country's endemic gun violence.https://edition.cnn.com/2019/08/08/politics/bill-clinton-assault-weapons-ban/index.html?utm_source=fbCNN&utm_term=link&utm_content=2019-08-09T02%3A00%3A13&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR0KIg26tmpskgvfam0riJtt1kYAxFdApj4Pe-Hg_vWlpEzx5U8eQUP-QKg

Schizophrenia Runs in My Family
On the morning of my 25th birthday, I looked at the wall calendar from my spot in bed, horizontal and snug beneath the covers. And I waited. I knew what turning 25 meant in my family. My mother, who has struggled with mental illness for the better part of her life, started hearing voices around the time she turned 25. Her paternal grandmother was a diagnosed schizophrenic. So was her biological father. My mother is certain that she has schizophrenia, though she has never been formally diagnosed. Partly because she doesn’t “do doctors.” Partly because she doesn’t have medical insurance.https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/01/fashion/psychosis-schizophrenia-family.html

This Is Exactly Why I'm an Atheist
Recent debate here in Australia, in the U.S. and around the Western world has been focused on immigration and religious intolerance. The minor kerfuffle about 'no religion' being given poll position on the upcoming census form has also heightened debate. Debate, of course, is a very good thing, so I thought I would share ten reasons I am an atheist to reassure anyone thinking of pointing a finger my way that you have nothing to worry about.https://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/steve-harrison/10-reasons-i-am-an-atheist_a_21443896/

Is an 80-Hour Workweek Enough to Train a Doctor?
Becoming a doctor has always been difficult. In the U.S. it requires four years of college followed by four years of medical school and, depending on the specialty, three or more years of residency training, a period when doctors routinely work up to 80 hours a week. It may then come as a surprise that becoming a doctor is actually easier than it used to be, at least in terms of time spent on the job. Resident doctors in the 1980s, for example, sometimes worked more than 100 hours a week, with hospital shifts frequently lasting more than 30 hours at a stretch. The reason for these grueling hours: a belief by many in the profession that long hours were a rite of passage necessary for giving doctors the clinical skills to practice independently.https://hbr.org/2019/07/is-an-80-hour-workweek-enough-to-train-a-doctor?utm_campaign=hbr&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwAR3buUklfNh6bB3U5WaKM8DDKIYqS4RKhiRsaF633jRbppVwpLk6PopZlno

How To Make Him FEAR Losing You
I want you to think of me as a spy who can tell you what’s going on in the mind of the guy you are falling for. Generally speaking, what would work on me would work on any guy you are going after. So, before I start blowing your mind with concepts you’ve probably never heard before, I’d like to make a pact with you. I promise to tell you everything that is going on in your man’s head. WIFE-BEATING' TO REMIND HER SHE 'MISBEHAVED'
Shiite Imam Bassem Al-Sheraa said in a class he taught at the Az-Zahraa Islamic Center in Detroit, Michigan that when the Quran refers to beating one's wife, it is referring to a beating that does not cause pain and that should be done using a sewak dental twig. He explained that the purpose of the "beating" is to clarify and remind the wife that she has misbehaved, and that it is only to be done when verbal admonishment and forsaking her in bed have been ineffective in getting her to change her ways. Imam Al-Sheraa compared the "beating" to slapping the hand of one's child when he reaches to touch an electrical socket or eat something dangerous. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbUhJVIP1xI

34-year-old self-made Millionaire-Here's How
In 2010, 24-year-old Grant Sabatier had just moved back in with his parents after bouncing from job to job and then getting laid off in the midst of the recession. With less than $5 to his name and only three months to find his own place, Sabatier knew he needed to get his finances back on track. His wake-up call came on the morning of August 24th when he wanted a Chipotle burrito for lunch. “I only had $2.26 in my bank account — not even enough to buy a side of guacamole,” says the Millennial Money founder and author of “Financial Freedom: A Proven Path to All the Money You Will Ever Need.”https://www.cnbc.com/2018/12/14/grant-sabatier-of-millennial-money-how-to-retire-in-10-years-or-less.html?__source=facebook%7Cmain&fbclid=IwAR2AtL_eYP-4gWnG27UN7Krwv8WF64WF4XyP_9bdIP7ty0kqn5lX11DgJ18
