Steven Mnuchin Refuses to Comply With Subpoena
WASHINGTON — Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Friday refused to comply with a congressional subpoena to hand over President Trump’s tax returns, a move that is likely to be the final step before the matter heads to the courts. For more than a month, the Treasury Department and House Democrats have exchanged letters about the request, which was initiated in April by Representative Richard E. Neal, Democrat of Massachusetts and the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/17/us/politics/mnuchin-trump-tax-returns-subpoena.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur&fbclid=IwAR3R5ccIcVvev3e3WEbrCtbK7nuzabf-zheHmHzVoUgKnkTQpbm9_Q4VB6M

These States Plan to Follow AL's Anti-Abortio Bill
The rush of Republican-controlled states to mount a challenge to the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade ruling legalizing abortion nationwide has sparked confusion about what these new laws actually do. Here’s what you need to know. Lawmakers in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, and Utah have passed new antiabortion bills, and similar measures are pending in other states. The new laws have prompted questions about whether women who have abortions could be punished and why some of the pieces of legislation are called “heartbeat bills,” among other topics.https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2019/05/17/havent-been-following-abortion-ban-news-heres-everything-you-need-know/?utm_term=.3c82d3a5560e

Congress Must Stop Trump From Blundering...
It’s time for the American people to become fully alert to a dreadful possibility. The United States, led by an erratic chief executive who is frequently ignored even by his closest advisers, may find itself stumbling into its worst war in more than a generation — in spite of publicly-expressed reservations from the president himself and without the Congressional authorization that the Constitution requires. The result could be a perfect storm of danger and distrust, culminating not just in a military emergency abroad but also a simultaneous and serious political crisis at home.http://time.com/5590697/trump-bolton-iran-war/?utm_medium=socialflowfb&utm_campaign=time&xid=time_socialflow_facebook&utm_source=facebook.com&fbclid=IwAR0uIAP8OfXvC5wtE4VAIPoY7YMaReDMBl5nxj_PcGlS7N5KWpCrXz-Nwj0

The US just raised tariffs on Chinese goods
The United States has escalated its trade war with China, hiking tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese exports hours after trade talks held in Washington failed to produce a breakthrough. Tariffs on the targeted exports increased from 10% to 25% at 12:01 a.m. ET on Friday, prompting a swift rebuke from Beijing. The Chinese government expressed "deep regret over the development" and pledged to take "necessary countermeasures." "We hope the United States will meet us halfway, and work with us to resolve existing issues through cooperation and consultation," China's Ministry of Commerce said in a statement. The ministry did not give specifics on how it would respond.https://edition.cnn.com/2019/05/10/business/china-us-tariffs-trade/index.html?utm_content=2019-05-10T10%3A47%3A17&utm_term=link&utm_medium=social&utm_source=fbCNNi&fbclid=IwAR0thWk6LeA8_BT8oBkbzqVdsJ1SLjmtEOxHt7Dd47QjCsA2zWBiU7HfAmk

Trump says America is 'full'
President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States "is full", and incapable of allowing entry to any new and diverse migrants. But citizens in one mostly-rural state say they couldn't disagree more. Forty years ago, Curtiss Reed Jr came to Vermont for a ski vacation and got stuck in a storm. He had to sleep in a Dunkin Donuts for two nights before he could make it to a friend's house. That gave him plenty of time to take in Vermont's natural beauty. "I spent three weeks skiing, eating, drinking and decided this was paradise," says Mr Reed, a consultant with the Vermont Partnership for Fairness and Diversity. "Six months later, I moved here." But since then, Mr Reed has seen downtown shops close in towns across the state. Taxes have gone up. Wages for many have stagnated. Mr Reed says that's because Vermont has only tried to attract one kind of new resident.https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-48179914?ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbcnews&ocid=socialflow_facebook&ns_source=facebook&fbclid=IwAR3NSGURUyAVdKdgrY0raO48C8XZsGqgF2fljGlZXIgGlemqV5Vwb0WjoRE

Holiest Shrine in Japan Is Pulled Down And Rebuilt
Shinto is Japan’s indigenous religion, blending formal, elaborate ceremonial practices from the imperial tradition with local, community-based beliefs. Followers of Shintoism worship their ancestors and regard them as the guardians of the family. They also pay their respects to the numerous kami – spirits that inhabit the natural world; there is no overarching doctrine or dogma in Shintoism, instead it focuses on the relationship between plants, animals, people, the elements and the yearly cycles of growth, death and rebirth.https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2019/04/japans-holiest-shrine-is-pulled-down-and-rebuilt-every-20-years-on-purpose?utm_source=Facebook%20Videos&utm_medium=Facebook%20Videos&utm_campaign=Facebook%20Video%20Blogs&fbclid=IwAR2T8xFoeWgsOafKsvGvWGfvrEi0UOdHr_A78GtDrIOR89rxxhMpZRm7fGU
