Netherlands creating manmade islands for wildlife
A small boy hauls enthusiastically on his fishing rod. The line flies up and a needle-spined fish strikes him in the eye. Desperate to stay outdoors, he ignores the pain, but his sight deteriorates over the following months. He continues to pursue his love of nature but, now blind in one eye, he is confined to studying creatures that are easy to see: insects. He grows to become the global authority on ants, and in later life is given the moniker ‘the father of biodiversity’.https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/08/biodiversity-isn-t-just-pretty-it-future-proofs-our-world?utm_source=Facebook%20Videos&utm_medium=Facebook%20Videos&utm_campaign=Facebook%20Video%20Blogs

If You're Single, Getting a Dog May Save Your Life
Having a dog can bring a lot of love into your life. It could also make it last a little longer. A group of academics from Uppsala University in Sweden analyzed the health records of 3.4 million people in that northern European country, where databases contain detailed information on everyone’s hospitalizations, medical history and even whether they own a dog. Such detailed records made it relatively easy to suss out the impact of having a canine companion. The results were heartwarming.https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-11-17/getting-a-dog-may-save-your-life-especially-if-you-re-single

Starbucks New Open Door Policy
On Wednesday, I wandered into a Starbucks because I needed something quick and familiar. And because I wanted to see if the pumpkin scones taste even sweeter than the ones in California. (They do. It's unbearable.) What struck me, however, was that there wasn't a seat to be had. The whole window was populated by humans on laptops, prodding away vigorously as if they were sending hundreds of ransom notes. At the tables, the usual business meetings you expect to see in any big-city Starbucks. It took quite a while for my order to be completed. I imagined, naively, that just one seat might have become free. It didn't. Everyone was doing their thing. What was striking, however, is that their thing didn't seem to involve consuming anything sold by Starbucks. You'll tell me that this has been a problem at Starbucks for years. Some Starbucks even began to cover up their power outlets to stop people sitting all day at a table and ordering nothing. https://www.inc.com/chris-matyszczyk/i-went-to-starbucks-its-new-open-door-policy-drove-me-out.html?cid=sf01002
