Life without a rescue dog, no way!

I am a life-long animal lover who is an adopter and foster of rescue puppies and dogs. I am a mother, runner, middle school cross country coach and love camping and hiking in our beautiful state. I began fostering puppies and dogs in October of 2015 and the experience of fostering and volunteering in the rescue field has not only brought me and my family immense joy it has shattered many fallacies. Everything from stereo types about breeds to puppy mills to preconceived notions that shelter pets must have behavioral problems. Meeting a group of rescue volunteers that had already given many years to the rescue cause and having a wealth of knowledge on pets and rescue they inspired me to do more. I have joined forces with this incredible team and looks forward to helping shelter pets find their forever homes.

Democratic Representative Ted Deutch and Republican Representative Vern Buchanan, both from Florida, have come together to propose bipartisan legislation that broadens the scope of federal jurisdiction through the PACT Act — which stands for Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture.

Under the new law, wrongdoers can be punished for drowning, crushing, burning, impaling, sexually exploiting, or suffocating an animal. Federal authorities will also have more power to pursue animal abusers and can prosecute crimes committed on federal property.

Those who are convicted under the law would be subject to felony charges, fines, and up to seven years in prison.

Perfect! Since Trump refers to asylum seekers as animals, this new law should protect our children at the border! Yay! Everybody Wins!

Kudos, but meanwhile we are torturing CHILDREN at our southern border. Susan Collins, and the rest of the barbaric Republicans do nothing. CHILDREN.

This is far outside the legitimate constitutional responsibility of the Federal government. Every good idea is not a cause for federal action.

If the federal government was really serious about banning animal cruelty, they would immediately BAN all slaughterhouses, circuses, meat and oils derived from animals corporate products, corporate dairy farming, tanneries, rodeos, and animal racing venues too.
There aren’t too many things more cruel to animals than those things listed above.

Now if we could just protect our children.

Animal cruelty and neglect has been a federal felony for a couple years now.
The FBI has a definition on it on their website.

That's nice but theres no such thing as a bipartisan bill anymore. The entire GOP platform boils down to 3 words"own the libs". The moment they find out Democrats are in favor of this they will find a way to be against it. Why do you think they turned on the environment the way they did? You think they all got attacked by trees and that's why they hate the environment? No, they saw a Democrat president say that protecting the environment is essential for assuring the safety and prosperity of future generations and immediately they knew, they had to destroy the environment. It was the only way they could"own the libs".

Animal Cruelty already exists on federal land by the federal government. Every time they round up wild horses and basically sent to kill pens to be slaughtered so that cattle can graze basically for free. Just saying.
