We make it easy to access the deal flow of investment professionals and invest alongside them.

Twelve years ago I left sunny LA for the cold of Edinburgh and a goal of playing professional football and things have been a riot since then. After achieving the initial goal I realised that I preferred other pursuits and have moved on from there. High-tech project management and product development ensued followed by a return to studies and completion of an MBA at Cambridge. Now, as co-founder of Syndicate Inc, I'm now focused on helping start-ups raise capital through equity crowdfunding while giving investors the opportunity to invest alongside experienced Business Angels. I live to learn, experience and gain perspective. I am a certified PRINCE 2 project manager and have experience with SQL and other light weight coding languages (some front-end and some back-end). I am a certified SixSigma Green Belt

Black holes are extraordinary and may even hold the key to unlocking the next phase in our understanding of the laws of physics.

Jerome Gauntlett talks about black holes and the fundamental laws of physics. What do you think of this?

I love the way Professor Gauntlett kisses the brilliant words he has just uttered.

I understand that he doesn't mean to, and is probably not even aware of it, and being interested in the subject I really, genuinely tried to stay with him, but his constant lip smacking drove me away about half-way through. Please, whoever produces these lectures, please, please, please, make sure to mention this to future lecturers.

I'm personally a fan of the idea that Planck stars exist inside event horizons. It just makes intuitive sense. A star collapses into the Planck density, and simultaneously forms a black hole. The star immediately begins to explode in a supernova, but due to the extreme effects of time dilation inside the event horizon, an event that would ordinarily take milliseconds apparently takes FOREVER

Recall that gravity is indistinguishable from acceleration. It's a heck of a lot easier to think about acceleration than curved space-time IMO. So, with the acceleration metaphor for gravity in mind, is the following an accurate description of events?

Don't talk about the"spin" of a black hole! It has a ROTATION... Not the same as the concept of spin in quantum mechanics that has been misunderstood enough in medias already!

This is the easiest to understand explanation for me so far about how these things fundamentally works.

Such a deep, clear, concise and simple to understand explanation. Fascinating.

I think he should have talked more about the nature of the event horizon, how things falling in to an external observer seem to get stuck there forever, due to the apparent slowing down of the time, due to the gravitational field.

Black holes are 2 dimensional objects. No matter where you are in space around it, it will always be circular. Black holes are not spheres. They have no 3rd dimension.
