Church preaches acceptance but remains homophobic

Regardless of deity, branch or creed, religion generally has one golden rule: treat others as one wishes to be treated. This principle gives religious adherents a law to live their lives by in order to avoid conflict and/or harming others. In Christianity, most denominations consider this rule to be one of the central tenets of the religion.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the LGBTQ community, it hasn’t always been this way, even when individuals identifying as LGBTQ want to become a part of a religious community and have a relationship with God. This alienation has caused much pain for the LGBTQ community, who may have a hard time coming out to their religious family members because of how both religious and lay people treat or perceive them. http://panthernow.com/2018/04/11/fighting-homophobia-within-church-christian-duty/

Within Christianity, there are a variety of views on sexual orientation and homosexuality. The many Christian denominations vary in their position, from condemning homosexual acts as sinful, through being divided on the issue, to seeing it as morally acceptable. Even within a denomination, individuals and groups may hold different views. Further, not all members of a denomination necessarily support their church's views on homosexuality

Is the church inherently homophobic?

Christianity is not inherently anything, thanks to the incredible variety of beliefs and practices one finds under that label. That's why you always see one group of Christians pointing at another group of Christians and proclaiming, “You're not really Christian!” The sects are so different that they often don't want to be associated with each other under the same label.

Yes. Churches are hypocritical. How do I know? I used to be one of them. I was taught to think that way. I was raised Christian, and I can vouch for a large portion of people.

The book of Leviticus is the only book in the bible that remotely alludes to homosexuality in any way. And even then it’s foggy at best.

Since a large part of homophobia is fearing the unknown, visibility is crucial to promote equality. When a person knows someone from the LGBTQ community they come to realize it’s just another person - who has dreams and fears and family.

Homophobia is a product of church doctrine, fear of the unknown and societal biases. Most homophobic Christians are a product of their environment. They are “taught” right from wrong by a Church that selectively uses passages from the bible to promote their agenda and completely ignoring those that conflict with their doctrine. Leviticus is commonly sited as justification, however, picking one verse and ignoring 612 other laws that don’t suit your causes is not about serving God, but selfishly serving your own needs.

Christians believe that God created all living things. If humans are born gay, it's something that is “given to them by God”. They can't change what's been given to them

Catholic Church is not homophobic. But Catholic Church cannot accept certain things for reasons well known to all. The Sacrament marriage is established to authorize a life long relation between a man and a woman to live in love. Church does not propose divorce in any circumstances unless and otherwise marriage was a case of cheating.

Homophobic Christians are following a branch of heretical Christianity called “Legalism.” This heretical sect is very popular in the United States. The upshot is that they worship the rules while ignoring the forgiveness part of the deal. They no longer worship Jesus as the Son of God and the Last Sacrifice. They no longer believe that all that’s necessary for the salvation of the soul is to accept the truth of that sacrifice. They worship the rules.

I do not understand why someone should declare if he/she is homosexual or not? Neither the church nor the public is interested in your personal relationships

Only the Christians who choose to embrace the Westboro doctrine to become anti-Christ bigots, have made Christianity to become homophobic, committing the same sin of hatred as what the people of Sodom did. While many people who claim to be Christians, would claim that they are not homophobic, are another of the common lie we hear from them, as can be seen in many replies here itself.

Homophobes who profess to be religious, and use words not from Christ but from Moses and Paul, to lie and deceive to justify why they will not follow the LAW, will be condemned and will NOT have eternal life. There's no such thing as Christian homophobe, discrimination and hate are NOT values of Christ.

Homophobes will all perish and will not have eternal life for failing to do the will of the Father.

"Christian" homophobes have so much blood on their hands when they strongly object to a gay couple expressing their love
