Manford said he wanted to pass on the advice he was given that"still gets me through to this day", which was"just because you're struggling, doesn't mean you're failing".

This morning we had a man “fall off” a motorway bridge. We all know what that means people do need to talk and reach out - but to who? More funding is needed in mental health there isn’t enough help out there. Talking to someone is brilliant, but sometimes professional help is needed. Counselling for children near me is £40 per hour which you have to pay for in 4 hour blocks in advance as there is such a lack of funding. If children are needing support and can’t access it, I worry about adulthood for them. I just hope those that are brave enough to speak out has someone to listen x

There are multiple reasons why people don’t talk about their mental health. One is career, companies will talk a lot about employee well being but in some instances having mental health on file issues will potentially cause some bias in decisions around promotions.
Another reason is that when you tell family and friends they naturally worry about you. This can amplify the symptoms as in the sufferers head it is validating everything they are going through. Also they will now worry about how their problems are affecting the emotional well-being of the people closest to them.
In my experience it was nothing to do with “I’m a man...I have to be strong” it was more about damage limitation.

As a younger man it is difficult to talk about because it has been seen as a weakness but as you get older it becomes easier to talk about.

If this helps one person talk about how they are feeling then he’s done a good thing by speaking about his feelings
