Many popular diets have some helpful elements, but only if they are part of a more holistic approach to eating. For your overall approach to eating, find foods with less fat, fewer carbohydrates, and as little added sugar as possible.

Diets don't work. Period. It's not exactly breaking news that almost everyone who goes on a diet will regain the weight. The pounds may drop temporarily, but then they come back. You can’t win with diets.

Dieting per se is not a bad thing unless you take random pills that are supposed to help you lose weight. That is when it becomes harmful.

I think dieting, like with everything else, should be done in moderation to avoid being too harmful to us.

I agree. IMO, it has to be in moderation partnered with proper exercise to be successful.

For me, people put too much stock on dieting when they lose weight that they forget they need exercise too.

For most people, I think dieting does not work and it's also harmful. Dieting creates more problems than it solves. Dieting and overeating become a vicious circle. Dieters never stop dieting and never stop using the dieting industry even if these diets are ineffective.

Surely, there must be a better way than dieting?! With the gimmicks, the money-making gadgets, bars, calculators and counter to one side, what does a person need to do to lose weight?! face with tongue

Dieting is safe provided you don't do anything extreme. You do have a trainer to guide you so I don't think dieting is harmful.
