“Safety measures on the roads did not cause car drivers and bike riders to behave more recklessly. The availability of clean needles did not increase intravenous drug use. Easier access to condoms did not lead to greater risk taking and more cases of AIDS.”

The issue is not the freedom to ingest whatever shit you like - it's the purity !! Who , as a 'chemist' would offer to 'approve' any pills knowing that their use could still kill the taker ???!"But you said they were OK !!" hence responsible for the takers' decision !???! The takers mix the pills with all sorts of stuff and want to shift responsibility for THEIR death to someone else !! GET REAL ! option to legislate hence purify and control distribution .... eliminate dealers/kitchens !!!

People can pay for their own private service, not the taxpayer!

I just worked at a festival and the kids were taking 6 to 8 pingers a day. We need pill testing, this needs to happen to save lives. Mixing pills from different batches is a big problem to. Why are our leaders so conservative and stupid?? Where is the progressive and bold Australia we us to have??

It's a no brainer . It's best practice in any health issue.

Zero tolerance and just say no doesn’t work. Young people take risks, always have, always will. Pill testing is harm minimisation. Some people throw their pills away after testing, potentially saving lives. Pill testing also offers an opportunity to modify behaviour due to interaction with health professionals and peer support.

Dickheads who take unidentified pills need protection from their own stupidity and we should pay for it.

Is there some reason pill testing proponents aren't advocating for screening of drugs being brought in to the venue at the gates?

That would be way more effective in reducing incidents by screening the sellers rather than providing a voluntary service to a buyer in a relatively uncontolled environment.

The moment an incident happens and this service was at a venue, all credibility is lost regardless of the facts. If it's at the gate and someone bypasses it, then credibility is not lost because the book can be thrown at the individual who bypassed the screeners and few would take issue with it.

Gen-Yers are the primary attendees of these dance parties - although I realise other people do attend. They are so arrogant and stupid that they would sooner hide an unknown substance between their butt cheecks and smuggle it in (a completely calculated decision), disrespecting (and tying up) police who are trying to circumvent the deaths, totally ignoring the well publiciced warnings of the risks... Because as usual 'they know better than everyone else'... If they are that stupid and arrogant they deserve everything they get. We should not be legitimising illegal drug use to upease a group of people who refuse to listen. Next we'll be removing speed limits for hoons, loosening sentences for criminals... Because someone chooses not to listen. You know the risks, you have been told them time and time again... But instead of choosing to listen to the advise (warnings) you choose to invest your energy into the best way to secretly source your illegal substance and work out the best way to smuggle it past the police. The decision is yours, but don't come crying to me looking for sympathy, protection, and changes 'to safe lives' when it all unravels. Don't want to potentially die from eating a poisoned capsure - Simple... DON'T F#CK*NG TAKE IT!

Injecting rooms dont have that same social acceptance as it appears party pills have. It isnt located at a massive dance party with huge peer pressure.

By all means, test the drugs (already available to those who have some care for their lives and families)... but surely education and funding for public awareness should be the priority. When did it become publicly ok to break the law and prioritise self and experience over everything else. The philosophy of this stinks!

How can that be ignored by our legislators.....?

Bringing in pill testing just further legitimises the use of party drugs... The next thing we'll be having caravans selling pre-tested drugs in glossy attractive packaging with a nice little government tax applied to them. If you're stupid enough to engage in the practice of taking unknown substances (after all the warnings) you deserve everything you get. Pill Testing is literally rewarding Gen-Y stupidity.
