The proposal was greeted with outrage from environmentalists and howls of laughter from EU skeptics.

EU legislators were debating that question this week - and they've come to the conclusion that meat-free options don't make the cut.

The European Parliament Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development voted in favour of a proposal to ban words like"burger,""hamburger","steak" or"sausage" on the packaging and marketing of foods"primarily made up of proteins of vegetable origin".

The amendment will make sure meat related terms and names are to be used"exclusively for edible parts of the animals".

Doing serious, important work there I see guys....."oh, we changed the name from burger, now it's not going to be insulted being labelled the same as the other 'burgers'"

Veggie patty on a bun with lettuce, tomato and sauce is too big to write on a small menu. Unless you want the menu to be like A2 size or pages long.
Burger is the style it's served in, it basically means""ON A BUN WITH SAUCE"" the adjective that is preceding that tells you what the patty, or protein component is. Lettuce and tomato are ALWAYS optional.
This is not a difficult thing to grasp.

Really? I'm a meat eater and I couldn't care less..
And I don't really think most people care what word they use.

As long as everybody knows what they are buying does it really matter what they are called.

Haha! No wonder Brexit hasn’t been solved! The EU are defining burgers rather than borders and trade with Britain.

I can’t see it happening. Why not focus their attention on something more necessary such as climate change.
