Fish feel pain. Let's stop pretending they don't.

An Italian NGO has published footage taken on intensive fish farms that appears to reveal troubling practices in an industry that so far has largely gone unregulated.

If we could live happy and healthy lives without harming others, why wouldn't we? After thinking about this question for quite some time a little while back, I couldn't come up with a justification for consuming animal products that sat right with me, and so I've completely stopped since then. I hope that bringing this sort of publication to the attention of readers inspires some self-reflection, and although I don't personally hold anything against people with differing perspectives on the matter, it really would be awesome if we could all have a reasonable dialogue without resorting to hostility towards one another. Much love. green heart

When i go fishing and catch one i always put in a box with water so it don't suffocate and when I'm ready to cook i chop the head first so it only feels pain for a split second.

Carrots scream when pulled from the ground. We are essentially animals, near the top of the food chain (think lions and sharks in hand to teeth combat) and can thank our meat eating ancestors for the size of our brains and height.

It's perfectly obvious to me that fish feel pain. I've always thought they are treated very cruelly.

Watch Blue Planet for a few seasons and then tell me whether or not the creatures of the sea give a damn about whether or not their fellow creatures feel pain before tearing them to shreds. Why should we be any more humane to them than they are to us? Does it make them taste better? Does it improve the ecosystem? How does this knowledge make the world better in any way other than getting the overly sensitive woo-woo's to feel better while they munch their tofu-na?

That's why catch and release fishing is not sport. Its like shooting an animal to injure them and thinking you've been so wonderful. #sad

Is it too late to take my shrimps out of the marinade? They're still flipping about, will they be ok? How do you recommend I 'put them to sleep' so they don't feel anything?
