According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), Germany has the best recycling rate in the world. Austria comes in second, followed by South Korea and Wales. All four countries manage to recycle between 52% and 56% of their municipal waste. Switzerland, in fifth place, recycles almost half of its municipal waste.

Just remember that some recycling uses a lot of energy and produces a lot of gasses.

It can only work when you have a strong Government, in Australia, the politicians would be arguing over which of their family trucks would get the contract to do the pickup.

I had the pleasure of living in Germany for six years. That’s where my family really learned to recycle and it has stuck with us even though we left 18 years ago. I am profoundly grateful for the experience.

In Germany they had recycling bins in every small town, hamlet or neighborhood! In West Virginia or New York, I can’t even find a glass bottle recycling bin anywhere near my neighborhood.

If they can organise 80 million plus people to make smarter choices in Germany, why can’t we do it here?
