Nowadays, it's no longer such an outlandish idea to have a pet in the office. According to Marie-José Enders, who studies the relationship between animals and humans at the Open University, office pets can help lower cortisol levels.

The researcher also explained that people with dogs are perceived as friendlier, so having an office pet may help improve your relationships with your colleagues too.

Do you think office pets will boost productivity or be a distraction?

Once leaders saw the joy, calm, and focus that these office pets brought to the table, it was a no-brainer to continue to allow pets in the office. These days, office pets virtually have free-reign over our office.

If anyone in your office suffers from allergies, bringing a pet to the office would be inconsiderate, even if you are at the top of the food chain.

An animal that is too energetic should not be constrained to an office environment, for the sanity of you, your co-workers, and the pet itself.

I'd love to bring my dog to the office. If I find a company near my place that allows this, I would probably jump ship, even if the offer is lower.

Why don't you talk to your employer and co-workers? Get the buy-in from management and make sure other employees are enthusiastic about the idea too.

I have a pet rabbit and it would be so awesome to bring him to work! He's quiet so he wouldn't be disturbing those who need to focus on deep thinking work. :)

Our company just approved of office pets. We are currently establishing some guidelines... When are animals allowed? What types of animals? What are the requirements to be considered an appropriate office pet? These are some questions that should be answered in advance.

For many parents the growing acceptance of pets at work represent another disparity they need to contend with. Young children are not permitted in the office on a daily basis because presumably they require attention and care that would detract from work, yet pet owners can bring animals in and pause to walk, feed, and play with them.

Permitting pets in the office is nice thing to do. But there are practicalities that need to be addressed that smaller businesses may be overlooking. How do companies handle individuals with allergies (about 30% of the American population)? Or individuals who are simply uncomfortable with animals due to past traumatic experiences?

Pets can improve the moods of the humans around them due to their unconditional love and pleasant temperaments. Petting an animal or interacting with a pet can help calm tension and create a sense of well-being.
