Furthermore, I possess experience in several aspects of human resources including: recruitment, employee training, incentives, benefits and payroll. My other areas of expertise and track record include coaching in the areas of transformational leadership, intercultural communication, team building, and managing change, with proven success in international recruitment. I hold a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership as well as advanced HR certifications.

Clinical psychologist Meg Jay describe resilience as a heroic struggle. She explains that resilience is not a trait and it’s not something we are born with. She has studied this for 20 years and she shares some practical ways to overcome whatever life throws your way.

She shares these tips from her book, Supernormal -

Tip#1 - First, recognize that your struggle is valid, no matter what you’re struggling with.
Tip#2 - Then realize the ways you’re already resilient.
Tip#3 - Don’t wait for the situation to fix itself.
Tip#4 - Know your strengths and use them.
Tip#5 - Don’t try to do it alone…
Tip#6 - …but know that it’s okay not to tell everyone.
Tip#7 - Find your favorite way to take a mental break.
Tip#8 - Be compassionate with yourself and realize all the ways adversity has made you strong.

I am a people person. Tip # 5 is definitely something I follow to get through with problems I face. I need someone to hear me out, not necessarily to give me advice but just to have someone to talk to is great.

Don't try to solve problems with the same thinking that created them. Resilient people do not make the same mistake again and again. They're willing to be honest about why they failed and they take the time to think about what didn't work.

This list is very helpful. How can you remember these tips when you are at your worst? How do you stay calm? I have a tendency to shut down and close myself off when I am in pain. I don't like people to see me in a bad situation.

Training to be resilient starting as a kid is probably a good strategy. From this list, I do the mental break from time to time. I would go watch a movie or TV show and immerse myself to the character of the show. Sometimes, I go as far as being in character to try to solve the situation I am in. It sometimes gives me new perspectives.

This is great! People always say it's important to be resilient. I used to think that I am but looking at the list, I discovered I was only 'half' resilient if that were possible.

I agree that you are not born resilient but people are born to KNOW how to be resilient so making a list for it is like making a list or steps on how to pee. You don't need a step-by-step guide to pee, you just know how to do it.

Tip # 3 is the one that applies to me. Things will always go wrong but you should be prepared to come up with solutions to fix it. The sooner you come up with something, the better.

Have a positive outlook. Remind yourself that much of what you're facing is temporary, and that you've overcome setbacks before and can do it again. Focus on what you can learn from the experience.
