You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great

In my college years, I got involved with a public speaking club and since then, I have found myself competing and speaking on numerous international stages. These exhilarating experiences helped me find my ‘Why?’ and inspired me to share my stories with others. When I asked my friends and colleagues to describe me in 3 words, they said: an authentic, energetic and inspiring storyteller. Very kind of them. But in fact, these are precisely the attributes I bring to my keynote speeches to talk about topics that affect every one of us. And I love what I do.

Have you ever talked with a friend about a problem, only to realize that he just doesn’t seem to grasp why the issue is so important to you? Have you ever presented an idea to a group, and it’s met with utter confusion? What’s going on here? Katherine Hampsten describes why miscommunication occurs so frequently, and how we can minimize frustration while expressing ourselves better.

Best part:"Don't assume your perception is the objective truth, that will help you work towards sharing a dialog with others to reach a common understanding together." It's a shame we can't all do this.

When I hear confusion, it means we don’t like it. It’s just a passive aggressive way of dealing with the issues. I train people to use empathy as a model. It never fails as a communication guide.
