If you want to make any permanent change in your life, willpower won't get you there. Personal progress and achieving success are best approached like you're overcoming addiction. Because, quite literally, that's what you're doing. As human beings, we all have addictions.

Isn't it still willpower that is needed in the end to accomplish your goals (ie. to decide to not bring bank cards with you, or not keep your phone next to you, etc...)?

Willpower is such a misconception and everyone thinks they need to have more discipline. In reality, you just need to manage it better to create the habits that create the results.

You need willpower to be committed and to create conditions that will allow you to achieve your goals though.

For me it's not about willpower. It's about thinking how I'm going to feel after doing that thing.

I find myself giving myself pep talks... everything from motivational to"don't be a pansy, where's your courage to accomplish today". It usually helps...last ditch effort I tell myself"just get started" and leave it open ended to if I continue or decide to step back from it for the day.
