How young girls' clothes are holding them back

When I stood in front of the girls’ sections in three different major retailers, I was perplexed each time. Why is almost EVERYTHING pink, frilly or sparkly? How are pale fabrics and glittery finishes to withstand the rigours of play?

The number of discussions I have around the ridiculous nature of women's and girls clothes is staggering. Yes, you can just head to the"men's section", but that's NOT THE POINT! Why should we have to go to the"men's section" to find something suitable? We need more choice across the board. Clothing retailers need to start listening to their consumers. Yes there is a time and place for cute and sparkly, but I should be able to find play-suutable clothes right along side these. My daughter had quite chubby feet as a young one and she literally could not fit into any of the shoes in the girls section. My sister has broad shoulders, is very tall and big hips, she struggles to find anything that fits comfortably and still looks nice. Our new teacher at school is struggling to find clothes that are suitable for her job that look nice, don't cost a fortune and don't show her boobs or butt as she goes about her day. Give. Us. Options.

So put her in shorts and move on with your day. It’s not rocket science.

Trying to buy basic swimwear in the major chains is impossible for girls. Had to buy online just to get something simple and functional that wasn't lurid.

I love my kids public school uniform, it’s the same polo and shorts for both genders, really easy to dry and no need to iron. Plus they get to wear trainers as foot wear.
My daughter ditched the skirt option in year two “too hard to run in Mum”.

Little girls love sparkly things and I haven't noticed them holding back on play because they might ruin their clothes.

My girl is sporty spice all the way- not many worn out - or at all skirts in her wardrobe- but I am so perplexed that there are so few decent girls runners to buy in general- all pink- and basketball boots for girls? has next to nothing -

Yep. And continues into adulthood, with high heeled shoes and restrictive clothing. All meant to subtly portray to males on the hunt that this female is going to be easy to catch.

Look in the “boys” section! Problem solved!
My seven year old daughter gets clothes from the “boys” section all the time.
