BERLIN — In 2015, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban claimed that he was one of the last European leaders defending the continent’s Christian identity against a Muslim influx.

Three years on, Orban’s declared goal of defending Christianity is now part of the country’s constitution. But aid groups say that this very same updated constitution poses a growing threat to the ideals it is supposed to protect.

While Christian communities across Europe work to provide support to homeless people, Orban’s government passed a constitutional amendment this summer that bans people from “living on the streets.” The vague legislation has been criticized as “cruel and incompatible with international human rights law” by United Nations experts.https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2018/10/17/hungary-bans-homeless-people-living-public-spaces-law-described-cruel-by-un/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.e1407200d65c

"Orban's government passed the constitutional ammendment of banning people from living on the streets this summer for preparation for the upcoming winter to save lives. Anyone who will be caught living or sleeping on the streets will be imprisoned or fined."

Do you agree that it is the best way to help the homeless?

Most people don't choose to be homeless. I just hope common sense prevails.

I'd think that homeless people would like to go to jail in the winter.

Isn't it preferable to help these people find their way in life and offer shelter accommodation than to lock them up?

Homeless people don't want to be homeless, but they also don't want to be locked up. It's called freedom and respect. Homeless people are not some sub species, they are human beings!

I am sure nobody will live on the streets if there is an alternative.
