No one can really avoid office politics since an organization is composed of people with diverse backgrounds and varied interests, etc. Just learn how to use office politics to your advantage.
How do you handle office politics?

Office politics is the game of people who lack emotional maturity and talent. Race and gender have nothing to do with it. Continuous learning and sharing success is the only way to get around these pests.

They are very harmful. Don't underestimate the pest, lol. Some of the stuff they spread is very damaging indeed (and garbage). Unfortunately, people aren't that bright. If someone's gossiping, it says they are the troublemaker.

Race and gender do have something to do with it though...If you are not a white male, and you are immature and incompetent, you'd be kicked out the door in no time. Only (mostly) white males get the opportunity to stay further by playing politics... grinning face with sweat

I've seen this happen with"favors" and connections too. I've seen it with two young women whose fathers worked there or knew someone who worked there. The thing is the Superior should"shut it down". They either do that or feed into the nonsense. lol or listen and then close the door and say"They have a personality disorder. I've got no time for that" I've seen it all. Good leaders don't feed into it. They will write people up when they"keep at it". I've seen men act inappropriately. They don't get written up as much but then tend to listen when told"Stop". This is why they need written up. Their paycheck usually matters more.

This. I’ve had very few workplace issues because the places I work hire mature people from all backgrounds and ages.
That's not what I saw in my previous companies.
Interesting observation. Focus on your skillset and developing it to where you what to be — not excuses. If you are committed, it will happen.
Fabulous article.
Way too many pissing up the wall contests go on in my work place, so much posturing and very little collaboration. Mainly men plus women who have felt they had to do this to get where they are. Really tiring and disheartening to watch.
