Australian billionaire and philanthropist Judith Neilson has committed $100 million for a new journalism institute to be based in Sydney.

Isn't it great or what?

100 million bucks to tell journos to stop making things up? Might also be worth spending a few thousand on teaching spelling and punctuation.

Call me cynical from LONG experience but what's her game. They don't EVER part with money unless it's of some benefit to them. So what is the kickback? What is her game?? A hundred million is not insignificant? Is she just another thinner Hancock/Reinhardt.

Journalism may not be dying, but the way it is evolving and changing it is probably going to look nothing like what she is funding. I hope the institute comes to recognize that, otherwise just good money after bad.

A breath of fresh air... a billionaire bankrolling an institute and choosing to rely on experts rather than their own biases. Did someone say Ramsay Centre?

Just think of aaaallllll the ways this money could be better spent. Social media killed journalism ages ago and it won’t be reborn no matter how much you throw at it.

Going to cost more than that to fix journalism in this country. Nothing but glorified opinion pieces.
