I am a Board certified optometric physician, focused on delivering personalized eye care to both children and adults. Eyes are part of an entire body, therefore, I examine my clients’ eyes and provide treatment with a holistic approach, considering how that particular individual functions as a whole person. I have been an optometrist for nearly 3 decades now and have not regretted my chosen career path at all. While no profession is perfect and we all have bad days, my advice to anyone looking to go into this field is to be patient and caring. Those are two things that I attribute my success and longevity to. People will always want quality care and if you truly treat your patients with kindness and respect, you will do well.

A study in the Journal Nature Medicine reveals that sleep deprivation has been linked to diabetes, obesity, stroke, heart attack and even death. The study examined by neuroscientists and psychiatrists around the world analyzed how the brains works when sleep deprived.

The result? The brain stops working properly and neurons are slower than usual. It means that the brain takes longer to interpret visual input into conscious thought.

In our company, we don't have high tech sleep pods like those. However, our company encourages nap time after lunch. Lights are out during lunch time so that people can nap.

That is a good idea. It forces you to take a nap. I wouldn't mind having a sleep pod at work but if my company can't afford it, I'd be okay with them just allowing us to take naps on our desks.

I usually take a power nap on my lunch break. Naps can restore alertness, enhance performance, and reduce mistakes and accidents. I work better when I get some shut eye.

Naps can increase alertness in the period directly following the nap and may extend alertness a few hours later in the day. I don't think I can go through the day without taking a nap.

Napping isn't always the best option for everyone. For example, some people have trouble sleeping any place other than their own bed, making a nap at the office or anywhere else unlikely. Other people simply have trouble sleeping in the daytime; it could be that certain individuals are more sensitive to the midday dip than others – those who are may feel sleepier and have an easier time napping.

It's amazing how"science" is suddenly releasing journal after journal of supposed benefits of some many random things like farting will prolong your life. There are actual real illness without any cures yet that can use brilliant minds to solve.

Napping has psychological benefits. A nap can be a pleasant luxury, a mini-vacation. It can provide an easy way to get some relaxation and rejuvenation.
