The Philippines beauty standard of whitening goes by many names - skin lightening, skin evening, skin-fading and even skin brightening.

It is estimated that one in two Filipino women have used skin whitening products at some point in their lives, which are aggressively marketed to Filipino women.

I’ll never get over the irony of women in one part of the world lightening their skin while in another they’re getting spray tans or exposing themselves to dangerous UV rays to darken their skin

I embraced my heritage and colour of my skin. I was born and raise in Philippines but migrated to US for over 30 years. Not once did I succumbed to anything like this just to fit in and compare my looks with the American women. I dont even dress like them. In fact I admired them bcos they are beautiful and tall. Not like me brown and short

Growing up as a kid... I hated my toned muscle heavy long legs because the boys used to say I looked like I had mens calves... now I wear short dresses all the time because I know my legs are amazing.

WE ALL HAVE SOMETHING!

White, black,b own, yellow and red who cares! The only thing you should care about is protecting that organ from Melanoma. It's skin people and take the skin off and then what do we all compare muscles and bones. Personality rules.

Your skin is an organ of your body. Whitening it is completely crazy. Let it change colour the way it's evolved to.

I'm a Filipino. My father and I are sort of against skin whitening products. For example, filipinos are natural brown/tan. A lot of people want to change their skin color to white. Because having white skin here means you are beautiful! Filipinos don't appreciate what they have. They want to be like other people from other countries. BUT I'm not against people doing things for their own happiness. So i don't know where I stand. I believe that Filipinos are now slowly accepting their skin color, and social media played a huge part in it. For example, we now see models or influencer that are brown. Unlike the previous years/generations where every one wanted to have white skin.

Need this movement in everywhere. Tired of everyone bleaching their skin with cake soap. Looking crazy. It’s horrible.
