Helping people is my passion, along with holding public decision makers and people in power accountable.

I have been covering news in Ontario for more than a decade. Prior to becoming a full-time investigator, I started out as a county reporter, then covered the education beat for 10 years and spent about five years anchoring weekend morning and evening newscasts. I earned a nomination for uncovering corruption in the Police Department which ultimately ended with the police chief being stripped of his law enforcement license. Problems I highlighted during a flooding in a city prompted the city to put new barricade measures in place at low water crossings after a woman lost her life. My passion for storytelling took off during college internships at station in our small town. In my free time, I enjoy being outside with my dog hunting for cool cowboy boots and taking on DIY projects.

In 1986, there was a popular uprising against the corrupt and brutal regime of President Ferdinand Marcos.

The then dictator was responsible for the imposition of martial law in the Philippines.

Recently his supporters have been exploiting social media to spread fake news as his family stages a political comeback.

Howard Johnson has been looking at the false messages and the efforts to counter them.https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-asia-46185620/rewriting-history-in-the-philippines-and-the-fight-for-the-truth?ns_mchannel=social&ns_source=facebook&ns_campaign=bbcnews&ocid=socialflow_facebook

Fake news all over the social media is not new anymore. The public or the users should be more wise in choosing who and what to believe in. Philippines has a rich history I should say and everyone seems to be interested.

Do fake news affect how you perceive things or situations or even history? Do you think Philippines history is fake?

Fake news is used to"obscure the truth." That's exactly what you have been doing BBC with your brexit reports for the last 3 years. You twist everything to favour remain.

Both sides in the Brexit debate think the BBC is biased against them. If you can’t handle alternative viewpoints then real journalism isn’t for you.

Marcos and Duterte- best Presidents in the Philippines. Foreigners know nothing but Filipinos know everything. And my Filipino friends told me this.

Marcos is a Visionary president and was so smart he single-handedly topped the 1939 Bar Examinations (with near-perfect score) despite being in jail. He’s the best president the country ever had.

The big mistake of the Marcoses was staying in power for 20 years. But the worst thing that ever happened in the Philippines are the incompetent Aquinos and their communist party allies.

Marcos was terrible; Duterte even worse. It’s sad to think those people have learnt nothing from history.
