Looking for a new job, better pay and your next adventure? Singapore comes top of a list of the best countries for expats to work, live and increase their earnings, while Switzerland offers the biggest salary boost.

The city-state is top of HSBC’s annual Expat Explorer report, which surveyed 22,318 expats about their jobs, salaries and lives overseas.

John Goddard, head of HSBC Expat said: “Expats don’t leave their native homes and jobs, friends and families just for the money. The decision is as much about pursuing new challenges, greater knowledge, new skills and wider life experiences.” https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/10/these-are-the-best-countries-for-expats-to-live-and-work-in/

If adventure beckons but you don't want to step out of the job market, working abroad could be the life-changing experience you need, and according to the World Economic Forum, Singapore may just be worth considering

Every part of the world is a package deal. One country might have strong economic potential but you have to face crowds every day. Another might offer nature but less money, better or worse weather, friendly citizens vs less friendly ect.
Choosing a country is like choosing a life partner- not one 'size fits all'. It's a matter of Personal choice of what we value in life.

My son is currently on that journey to find his ideal country to live. It's not a theoretical matter but rather one of personal choice based on where we feel 'at home' and that's different for everyone.

It is not the fact that you are living abroad that changes you. You are still on the same planet. It is the fact that you open your mind and are not part of a biased majority. Live long enough in your new country to find a"tribe" of your own and you will think about moving"abroad" again.

We loved Singapore it gave us healing from crime and corruption. We had the best 5 years of our lives there. We did eventually miss wide open spaces. Then we would just get on a ferry and head out to Indonesia and the rest of South East Asia all interesting and different.

A German cousin of mine, a reporter moved to Sweden with his family, wife and three kids a few months ago. He tells me the schools are better, they make more money, his wife is a computer programmer, but they also pay more taxes. He likes it.
