The food we eat is putting 11 million of us into an early grave each year, an influential study shows. The analysis, in the Lancet, found that our daily diet is a bigger killer than smoking and is now involved in one in five deaths around the world. Salt - whether in bread, soy sauce or processed meals - shortened the highest number of lives. Researchers say this study is not about obesity, but"poor quality" diets damaging hearts and causing cancer.

I think you’ll find people would rather spend 99p on a burger than £3 on a salad

I’m gonna eat what I want and die with a smile on my face, whether I’m fat or thin, I’m here for a good time not a long time.

I’ve been on a very low carb diet (keto diet) for a while now. I only eat food that I cook from home. No packed, processed food or take away for me. Only use sea salt with moderation, loads of vegetables and berries, seeds and nuts; omega3 supplements. Good sources of fat. No alcohol intake or smoking. Good amount of protein.

So if salt is the biggest killer maybe stop putting it in literally every single thing from bread , cakes cereal etc...surely the manufacturers have some responsibility here too.

Since moving to a totally biscuit based diet, I've never been happier.

Need also to look at research on keto/low carb high fat diets which do not include grains whole or otherwise and not a lot of fruit but lots of green leafy veg! I've reversed my diabetes this way and reduced the inflammation of my Rheumatoid arthritis. Don't have tunnel vision for high carb low fat diets. Look at ALL the research.

Sadly, people's diets are so restricted that they are conned into believing that heathy food is expensive, when the opposite is true.

I'd rather eat tasty delicious food my whole life but carry a few extra pounds and maybe miss a few of the worst years off my life, it's a fair trade to me.
