Business strategy during the week. Leisure travel on the weekends. Passionate about the guest experience

Based on my years of experience and client feedback, I can quite confidently say that some of the novel travel tips to live by are: 1. Wrap your clothes in tissue paper when packing. It keeps them from wrinkling and bunching up, even if you are flying for 14 hours straight. 2. Always book the latest possible flight when going to a relatively far destination. That way you arrive mid-morning, which is good for getting over jet lag. 3. Wearing an eye mask on a flight is key. It’s a ‘Do not Disturb’ sign and lets you control the light/dark balance when crossing multiple time zones. 4. Always put on an Sk-II face mask, it protects your skin from the dry airplane air.

The 'wedding tax' is real

“Whatever you do, don’t tell them it’s a wedding.” It’s long been the advice given to couples that when they begin the process of wedding planning, they should not let on to providers the event is their nuptials, to avoid having a premium slapped on the price.

I think part of it is the expectation of “perfection” of goods & services for a wedding. Perhaps they feel that the increased price includes them going that above and beyond extra mile many people will do for a wedding?
That’s not necessarily a good thing but it could explain it a little.

I've heard several stories where the service is exceptional when it was for a wedding. Damaged bouquet, florist came on site to repair. It's not tax, it's insurance.

Weddings are expensive because society, especially women, have taught young women that being princess for a day is so dang important.

I feel like a certain increase in price is fair enough. Most birthday parties won’t have 6-8 speeches that the dinner service has to be scheduled around for example. I think there is also an expectation that things have to be perfect at a wedding, and that requires extra organisation and attention to detail.
But the rate at which these prices are increased by is definitely ridiculous.
We only had 35 people at our wedding reception, and we didn’t tell the venue it was our wedding reception - just that it was a celebration dinner as we had just got married. I don’t know if this would have changed the price we paid at all, but we certainly tried to be as easy and relaxed customers as possible to emphasise that we didn’t require wedding level perfection.

If you think your weddings are expensive, wait till you see the Indian ones! People go bankrupt after them, and I'm not even kidding.

You can choose to lie to your dj about your function. But you’ll be pretty disappointed when they book you the junior they only book out for 18ths and 21sts because because they haven’t been properly trained for weddings and more prestige events, and doesn’t have the event management skills to think on the fly when delays occur. When your package doesn’t inclue an mc, consultations about run sheet or special song sourced for first dance etc.

I work in the wedding industry doing wedding videos, and more often than not, you realise the big flashy weddings are purely for the families. They're the ones footing the bill, so they have no bones about making it the best, most extravagant, vulgar day, so they can say to their family and friends"LOOK AT HOW SUCCESSFUL AND HAPPY MY FAMILY IS!".

My ex and I got married in the park and had a BBQ afterwards. cost about $500. we divorced 8 years later so I am glad I did not waste 10's of thousands on a silly wedding.
