The World Wildlife Fund announced last year that by 2 August, we had consumed all the resources that we did in all of 2016. The term for this is ‘Earth over-shoot’. We are consuming our way through the world.

For now, we can still afford to lose forests; but not for long. If the trend continues, in the next decade we will have few forests left.

To prevent this, governments and the private sector need to act now.

How do you think the private sector can help fight deforestation? Do you think the world governments are doing enough?

Every year, more than 10 million hectares of forest are planted worldwide, either on newly felled woodland or reclaimed land. These kind of projects should continue and governments should require people to replace trees they cut down.

That's why I go vegan. Seeing that eating beef can be one of the causes of our decreasing forest life, I'm glad that I can help in my own way.

Businesses should go paperless and take advantage of the technology we have. Spending time hunting through piles of paper slows down response time in an age when most answers are only a few keystrokes away. By scanning electronic copies of receipts and invoices, documents can be sorted, filed, and organized for quick retrieval when it matters most.

Plant a tree. But you can take it one step further by making sure the choices you make at home, at the store, at work, and on the menu don’t contribute to the problem.

Can you imagine a world without air to breathe in? I can't and I don't want to. I want my children to be able to have a beautiful world to live in. So I try to do my part by conserving paper for one. Unless absolutely necessary, I don't print. I use the back side of a paper all the time, even the back side of tape receipts. I also bought digital writing board for my kid to practice writing in.

Countries need to stop using outdated fiscal policies for agriculture. In some places such as Brazil and Indonesia, the amount spent by their governments on subsidizing agriculture is more than 100 times higher than the international funding provided to those countries for forest conservation.

Finland ranks first among countries that are good at protecting environment. Countries can take after it. It has a goal of consuming 38% of their final energy from renewable resources. Its biodiversity efforts has started way back 1923, talk about conscious people.

Every little bit counts and that goes for environment preservation as well. Aside from those you mentioned, opting for e-bill instead of paper bill is a good one as well. We just throw out those papers anyway.

It's a great idea but trees take years to grow and we are cutting faster than the trees are growing.

I agree. We should all go paperless too! I am worried that it might be a bandaid solution to a much larger problem though.

Air will technically still be there. It's just of questionable quality without the trees and plants to filter it.

Do you think that companies are required to pay premiums or penalties for the papers that they use in their business? Do you think that will work as deterrent?
