I've also seen countless tweets, facebook statuses and other online posts about how people have"given up on humanity." This is a phrase that I see far too often online when events like the ones I just mentioned occur. It is a phrase I used to use as well because it seemed fitting during these times of confusion and sadness when there was absolutely no explanation in the world that could make anyone understand why something so evil could happen.

What kinds of injustice do you see everyday? Messed up morality? Narrow minded people? What makes you want to become a nihilist when you see it?

That is heartbreaking especially since they are both teenagers.

Selfishness is on it’s peak in today’s world. People are selfish to the extent they never have been. The whole world has turned into a pool of selfishness. Only very few are sitting outside. They might also dive into the pool anytime. Only some are there who still like the world outside the pool of selfishness. Everybody is busy in their life to the extent that they even refuse to see their own family.

Now the condition is worse! People compete over selfishness. They try nobody should move ahead of them in the line of selfish people.

I think it's more a survival instinct but there's no need to be selfish. We aren't at war and there's no shortage of anything.

I've met some truly unsavory people at work. They've made me realize that everyone has an asshole lurking inside of them. I haven't really give up, though. Just a trough in my overall trust in people.

I think that's a pretty shallow reason to give up on society and human kind in general.

In working for the government for the past year I have encountered people that are nastier, more useless, and more entitled than I ever thought possible. Not that I had much faith in humanity beforehand but government employees are actually the worst.

Nothing, I'm a human, there is no way for me to give up on humanity without killing myself and abandoning humanity or living in a shack in the woods like a crazy.

Crawling along a riverbank with a broken leg and ankle, trying to get two men fishing on the other side to help, but they ignored me. As did everyone else within earshot.

Finally crawled close enough to a picnic table where a family was sitting--just on the other side of some tall weeds--to directly ask them to call for help.

When no one had to do anything, they were happy to form a crowd and watch me be carried to an ambulance.

Sorry you had to go through that.

I still have faith in humanity. A lady paid for my Starbucks order once because I couldn't find my wallet. She had no idea my family and I were on our way out of town to move to a new state, she didn't know that my cat had pooped in the car, or that my two-year-old had barfed all over himself, or that my two-month-old daughter hated riding in her car seat and I was super stressed about the long road trip ahead. On the outside I looked like a young mom who couldn't handle her two crazy kids. But she didn't judge me, she just helped me. It was small but it still makes me cry when I think about it.

I feel you! Sometimes, the smallest favor can mean the most to us!
