The Tesla chief’s willingness to take risks with what he does online has been increasingly questioned. He has been criticized for tweeting last month that he was considering taking the Silicon Valley car maker private at $420 a share, with many people assuming he picked that figure because it’s a reference to marijuana.

Was it right for him to smoke marijuana? What are your thoughts on marijuana?

Only around 85,000 people watched the livestream while hundreds of thousands more people read the media coverage. I am pretty sure that every single person interested in this question has seen the picture of Musk holding the joint while smoke hovers in the air.

Let me preface this by saying that I am strongly against all types of illegal or addictive drugs. I believe that the media is making a bigger deal of this than it might actually be.

He's probably having a meltdown.

Musk is in accordance with all of Tesla’s policies on drug use. It is perfectly legal to smoke that type of joint in California. Technically, he hasn’t done anything wrong.

I believe that this was a mistake. Musk is fairly renowned for being clean, once being quoted by Adeo Ressi as ‘the most straight-laced guy I’ve ever met’.

This interview diminished that image, and worse, the coverage made it sound like Musk was going off the rails. Throughout the entire interview, Musk talked perfectly rationally in that quiet, slightly stuttering voice of his.

There was no indication that Musk was any different from normal, yet the pictures and coverage that he had started smoking marijuana has already damaged Tesla’s stock.

Ultimately, this shouldn’t be a huge piece of media. Musk smoked only trace amounts of marijuana, did not feel effects, and acted calm and rational throughout the live stream.

I believe it will further damage Musk’s reputation and Tesla’s stock. I hope that people see what actually happened during the interview and I hope the readers of this answer are able to spread this message and keep the headlines from interfering further with Musk’s businesses.

For the record, Musk is far from the only CEO to have ever admitted using marijuana. George Zimmer, the former CEO of Men's Wearhouse (now known as Tailored Brands), admitted to smoking pot, and billionaire Richard Branson regularly admits use of the drug.

Elon Musk legitimately creates and works hard for the betterment of humans, but the media continues to try to smear him. Alcohol is so much worse than marijuana, but it's still an issue? Many are still so ignorant and willing to bash a man trying to do great things.

He didn't inhale, I think that's why the stock dropped, no one likes to see people wasting weed like that. Hahaha.

Smoking legal weed is a 'problem', yet like 7 out of 10 billionaires be doing hella cocaine on the low.

How is this legal? This is completely construed and made maliciously to bash Elon and Tesla.
