I have my own etsy store of knitted things and I have one daughter (I am an only daughter too!) and she's 4 years old this year and is about to start kindy soon.

Why do moms have a favourite child?

The results showed that moms do indeed have favorites. The following came out of the study:
1. Daughters were heavily favoured over sons.
2. Being the favourite can be stressful since you have to worry about your mom all the time. The favourite was more likely to be depressed as their mother aged and faced health issues. Tensions also rose between thefavorite and the other siblings.
3. After 7 years, the moms already needed assistance due to illness or injury and even high-quality care from other children was unlikely to compensate for the absence of the preferred caregiver.
4. Surprisingly, the moms answered the same children to the questions after 7 years.

Do you believe that moms have favourites? How do you deal with being a favourite or a non-favourite?

This is a lie! I don't have a favorite child! I love my 2 kids unconditionally and equally. There is no doubt.

In our family, this is obvious. My brother gets a lot of attention and my mom will bend the rules to accommodate him even when we were kids. It's just something you get to learn to live with as you get older.

As the oldest of two children myself, I can testify that being fussed over doesn’t necessarily feel like preferential treatment. Quite the reverse, in fact. My sister got away with far more mischief than me, simply because my parents were much less anxious about enforcing the rules.

My sisters have said that I am my mom's favorite. Although I didn't admit it to them, I knew it was true. It was a burden for me because my sisters would use me to get what they want from my mom. Now that we're adults though, my mom has a new favorite. Lol.

My mom always said this and I never believed it and I am right! Now that I am a parent, while I love all my 3 kids equally, I do have a favorite. Hahaha

It's usually the oldest or the youngest that ends up being the favorite. My mom prefers my brother over me but my dad and I are really close so I'm okay with that.

There's just me and my brother so we're sort of lucky. I am my dad's favorite and my brother is my mom's. We each have our own. Haha

I think most of us have short-term favorites, depending on who’s going through a ‘phase’. You can feel immense affection for one child on a Tuesday who then drives you to distraction on Wednesday. But the underlying love is just as intense for all of them.

My mom claims to love all of us equally but it is obvious that she prefers someone among all of her kids. She often cooks and brings food to my brother quite often.

I am a parent and I don't have any favorite. This is the honest to goodness truth!

I know I am not my mom's favorite child. I can't change how she feels no matter how much better I did in school when we were kids. As I grew older, I realized there's nothing I can do so I just accepted whatever love I can get from her, which is far from lacking.

I am glad I didn't have to deal with that since I am an only child but I see from my friend's parents that sometimes, they do have favorites and they are just too shy admit so.

I don't believe this is true for everybody. I know my mom treats us all equally and loves us equally.
