Why Hinduism Has so Many Gods?

A: Hindus all believe in one Supreme God who created the universe. He is all-pervasive. He created many Gods, highly advanced spiritual beings, to be His helpers.

Longer answer: Contrary to prevailing misconceptions, Hindus all worship a one Supreme Being, though by different names. This is because the peoples of India with different languages and cultures have understood the one God in their own distinct way. Through history there arose four principal Hindu denominations—Saivism, Shaktism, Vaishnavism and Smartism. For Saivites, God is Siva. For Shaktas, Goddess Shakti is supreme. For Vaishnavites, Lord Vishnu is God. For Smartas—who see all Deities as reflections of the One God—the choice of Deity is left to the devotee. This liberal Smarta perspective is well known, but it is not the prevailing Hindu view. Due to this diversity, Hindus are profoundly tolerant of other religions, respecting the fact that each has its own pathway to the one God.https://www.hinduismtoday.com/modules/smartsection/item.php?itemid=5663

Hinduism emphasizes on establishing a personal connection between a person and the supreme being.

A person can choose to even focus on just one aspect of the divinity - which she is free to even give a form - Since there is divinity everywhere - Everything is the creation of the supreme being and thus comes from him.

Mysticism is in the heart of every religion. It is by it's nature empirical and based on direct experience rather than belief. Sadly many religions today have lost touch to their origin. Hinduism is one of the larger religions that still holds firmly to its roots.

Meaning of religion is way of life which was changed with time....Dharma which is Hindi of religion means way of life....eating, bathing, attending to nature's call, taking care of family, earning money for living a better life everything is our Dharma, similarly finding our true inner self and working towards it is also our Dharma... Religion = Dharma = Way of life.

Please don't be under the concept that everybody in India or every Hindu born is enlightened. There are many ignorant among Indian Hindus too...an Indian Hindu businessman will be a businessman. A Hindu barber a barber, a tuktuk driver a tuktuk driver. Many born Hindus are not having the philosophical knowledge of western people. They are just born into Hinduism although at some point of life, they may come across these values often late in their life.

All the gods in Hindus were just men like you and me, but how do they become godlike, it is because they raised their consciousness to understand the reality of the existence.
