Just as you can read books without ever stepping into a library, you can practice spirituality without ever going to a temple
Having grown up in a staunch Christian family, I quickly paved my way by developing an interest in spirituality in its entirety – not confining it to only religion. Having studied Theology, Psychology and Anthropology, I was always well aware that my career path would touch on spirituality. Currently, I work at a local University - acting primarily as a faith resource for staff, open to questions or concerns on issues of faith. I take my role very seriously and further assist staff with their planning for reflection time, morning watch, or campfire devotions, as well as making themselves available to staff for one-on-one conversations. With a healthy spiritual life, I believe that other aspects of one’s life can be at their maximum.

I am happy for her, she made it out. No one should be in a place where he or she is feeling forced to believe in something that he/she doesn't believe and do things that he/she doesn't want. We should have the freedom to choose.

I grew up in a small, abusive family cult. I ran away when I was 17. That was 13 years ago, and I haven't spoken to any of my family since. I am in therapy still trying to recover, I changed my name and will never give a TED talk because I don't want to be found. Dawn Smith is bright, brave and brilliant for getting out and building a life where she can talk about this without fear.

If short hair was God's plan for men then he must be angry with his son.

If short hair was God's plan for men then men wouldn't be able to grow long hair.

Have you noticed that no one who is in a cult thinks they are actually in one. There are probably members of big American formed Cults watching this right now and not thinking it applies to them. Just ask yourself.....are you free to research your own religion outside of their official website? Would you feel very guilty and sinful if you did independent research about the history of your own religion? I'm not talking about your organization's version of their history, I'm talking independent research ? Can you do that freely? Would you do that? If you cant or won't then its fair to say that you are a member of a high control group otherwise known as a cult. A cult doesn't always have just one leader, sometimes it has a handful of men at the top making the decisions.

It's like being a frog in water. It doesn't change quickly. It's a slow boil. Its like being in a relationship with a narcissist. At first its wonderful and slowly gets cultish and most people don't notice until its a fight to escape. It took me about 2 years to finally get out. Took another 2 years in therapy to detox.

Yes, we can, although sometimes some people may not be happy. Oh, too bad, my belief am not supposed to please the man, we are supposed to please the God by know him better.
They say you know you are in a cult when you are not free to come and go as you please.

"Are you free to research your own religion outside of their official website ?" EXACTLY! So true...if a cult believes they are the"truth" or the"one true religion" then their members should be able to research this claim without being denounced....
