I'm the go-to guy when it seems like things are falling apart and your systems are failing you

I was the typical computer nerd all throughout my schooling years and have since gone on to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. I am an Oracle Certified Professional, as well as a Java Development Certified Professional. My work includes advanced performance tuning, Java programming, capacity planning, database security and physical/logical database design in a UNIX, Linux and Windows NT environment. My other interests include mathematical encryption theory, programming language processors (compilers and interpreters) in Java and C, LDAP, writing web-based database administration tools, Xemacs and of course, Linux.

Many employers are placing greater emphasis on workplace environment too, believing they should make the time people spend at work as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. KFC offers breakfast to their employees including cereal, bread and yoghurts plus fresh fruit and health snacks daily. Meeting rooms are used after work for fitness classes such as circuit training and Zumba, while Pilates takes place in the onsite gym.

One of the things companies should already be doing is to make workplaces supportive of moms, from lactation rooms to daycare centers. A company I know even delivers mom's expressed milk to her baby at home, that's what you call support.

It’s time to banish boring! And while we’re at it, let’s give everyone a choice. Allow employees to pick from a number of programmes, so they can decide if they’d rather tackle Work Life Balance or Emotional Intelligence. Smoking Cessation or Leadership. Keep it short and engaging so they want more.

Let’s face it. One size just doesn’t fit all. One person’s stress might be fueled by finding it hard to say no. Another person’s might be more about feeling under-valued. Individually tailored programmers are essential.

The beauty of digital is that people are engaging with it out there in the big wide world. So make sure your digital well-being and development programs are too. Forget pages of learning or endless modules on a PC. Give them micro-behaviors on their mobiles, that they apply in their working lives. We call it ‘Active Well-being.’

If you want to help people make changes, you have to break existing habits. So interact at different times. Mix it up. Target different behaviours. Challenge them to push their comfort zone. Make it personal. We achieve the best results when people feel that they have got a real insight into their own behaviours.

They might be learning remotely, but they don’t want to feel alone. Give them somewhere online they can meet and chat with others. Where they can upload photos. Have conversations. It may be digital, but let’s make sure, that above all else, it’s human.

Nothing is better for life balance, joy, longevity, health, and work productivity than physical activity. Any workplace can incorporate this when options range from sit-stand desks to guided yoga classes, stress management seminars, or full-scale on-site fitness centers.

The on-site fitness centers are becoming a huge thing now. I wish we had this at work.

Not everyone can work from home effectively. But for those who can, it can lead to a huge boost in productivity and provide a mental and emotional break from a long commute and being in the office. If it's appropriate for your work environment, give employees the option to work from home a day a week, and you have the potential to see a boost in productivity and morale.

Companies that invest in new and working parent career coaching services, such as those offered by Life Meets Work, demonstrate a commitment to helping people integrate work and life in ways that can be fulfilling both at work and at home.

Mindfulness training is a great tool to help your employees relieve stress and feel balanced, but also increase productivity and focus on their day-to-day work. Mindfulness practices such as meditation, breathing, and yoga help employees be more present as well as enhance their efficiency.

Financial program education that is based on different stages of one's life and career, as well as common situations that are faced at those stages ia a good way for employee wellbeing. Money can be a huge burden that isn't fully addressed beyond retirement planning
