Of course its acceptable to arrange nursing/residential care for your parents. At some point, a threshold is crossed where its simply not safe or dignified for someone to be living at home, even with a robust care package in place.

If they can be given the proper care in a retirement home, that might be the best way to go. I can't be with them 24/7.

I agree. If they need medical care and I am not equipped for that, I would send them to a facility who would be better equipped at handling it.

I'd try to take care of them but if I can't, then I might check out a retirement home to give them the proper medical attention they need.

It's better to have people around them. I think a retirement home would be good because they can socialize too.

Yes, I already have to deal with my husband's parents everyday so I don't think it will be a good idea to have both sets of parents in one house! It will be chaos!!

I really want to spend as much time as I possibly can with my parents so no, I would NEVER send them to a retirement home. That feels like I'm abandoning them

There's such a negative reaction to retirement homes, I would consider it because it's an opportunity for them to make new friends with similar interests even at their old age

Why would you want to leave them when they are at their most fragile??? No way, I would never send them to a retirement home

Never that! I'm building a granny flat in my backyard and they will live with me and my husband!

I'd try to take care of them at home. Sending them to a retirement home doesn't mean they'll get the proper care.

I'll do my best not to. I want my future children to grow up with my parents around. I don't like the idea of them being away from me and being taken care of by a non-family member.

That's pretty heartless. You're willing to take in your in-laws but hanging your folks out to dry.
